Tammy earned her B.A. in Physics at Temple University in 1998, a Masters in physics at the University of California Irvine (UCI) in 2000 and a Ph.D. in physics (specialization in astrophysics) at UCI in 2004. What, you may ask, does that have to do with yoga?

In 1999, as she dived deeper into understanding the Universe through her study of physics, she began to study yoga with Juris Zinbergs, founder of SoCal Viniyoga. After working with Juris, she found that she felt a deep connection to the yoga teachings passed down through him. Her yoga practice became a profound tool to find peace and calm during a sometimes stressful process of graduate training.

In 2002, she began to deepen her yoga education by training with Juris's teachers Gary Kraftsow , founder of the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI), and Mirka Scalco Kraftsow , co-director of AVI. In this same year, she began teaching part time to both children and adults while pursuing her Ph.D.

Tammy is passionate about teaching, public education and public outreach both in physics, astronomy and yoga. She is currently enrolled in the AVI teacher training program , which is a 500 hour yoga teacher certification program. Since graduating from UCI, she has worked as a teacher in physics at the University of Regensburg. She also developed a popular astronomy workshop entitled "Astronomy: Understanding our Place in the Universe," which was first presented at "The Crossing" in Austin, Texas in July, 2005.

She lived in Germany with her husband from 2004 - 2006 where she taught physics at the University of Regensburg and taught group yoga classes at the "Volkshochschule" (VHS) as well as working privately with individuals interested in learning more about yoga.

She currently works as a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Astronomical Sciences. However, thanks to modern technology, she resides in Southern Germany in wonderful Regensburg where she works remotely.
